- Douglas Adams
My own path of discovery began following a tragic car accident which resulted in my husband and two of our friends losing their lives and I sustained critical injuries. My recovery from my physical injuries would take almost two years. My recovery from my mental, emotional and spiritual wounds would take much longer. It was during my process of healing that I was given a very definite call to be a Mental Health Counselor. What seemed like the most unlikely time for someone to help others turned out to be one of the biggest blessings of my life.
My life experiences have allowed me to gain tremendous insight into what my clients experience in the midst of traumas, loss, adjustments in life and the very difficult but very possible journey of re-building their lives. Although, I had times of despair and feeling like giving up, there has always been a determination and a tenacity deep within my spirit that commands giving up is not an option! I learned that courage is not what we “feel” but what we “do.” I came to recognize during the most challenging times of our lives there is one thing that can never be taken from us and that is our ability to choose. I determined I would choose life rather than surrender to defeat. What seems impossible in the moment is very possible once we set our minds on the hope of our future.
